Introduction
The Department of Architecture under the School of Science and Technology educates its students as per the changing needs of modern society. Central to the department's philosophy is commitment to the value of architectural design and contextuality as well as the mutually reinforcing aspects of creativity, investigation and technology. The department hence is dedicated to nurture professionalism, social awareness, and environmentally sensitive issues among the bright minds of its students. Currently chaired by Sajid Bin DOZA, PhD, the department is guided by the following mission statement:
The Department of Architecture of State University of Bangladesh builds future's professionals and scholars. Students of DOA at SUB are educated to lead with the complex and chaotic situation of the city. Focus has been made to chisel each student to be knowledgeable and might deal with sophistication to build future road-map. Outreach activities, community development events-workshops and contribution to the urban life are adjunct morals with studio activities. To create trendsetters, architectural education in the State University of Bangladesh helps to craft responsibility, dedicated and determined by the mottos of receptive, resilient, and comprehensive built environment. Multidisciplinary knowledge and skills aimed at enlightening widespread aesthetic values, traditional techniques, sociocultural patterns, economic viability and universal wisdom to face current climate change challenges. With this pedagogical inspiration, our students become sympathetic to environmental and sustainable developments and contribute with their full effort and potential to serve the country as well as the global vicinity.
Degree Requirement
The program is structured around a credit
oriented Bi-Semester system comprising of total ten semesters. Students must
complete 190 Credit Hours within a maximum duration of 8(eight) years to be
eligible for obtaining the degree i.e. Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch).
Minimum CGPA requirement for obtaining the degree is 2.50.
Admission Process
The university operates a round the year
admission system divided into bi-semesters i.e. Spring (January-June) and
Fall (July-December). The students are required to fulfill the university
admission requirement besides to the UGC guidelines. The admission forms and
relevant information can be collected from the Admissions Office in the main
building. Completed applications together with required documents should be
submitted to the Admission Office as per deadlines.
For convenience of the graduate students seeking admission in the master
programs, the admission office is also open on Fridays and Saturdays besides
the regular university working hours.
Admission Eligibility
For students under National Curriculum:
Minimum GPA-2.50 both in SSC & HSC (Separately). If anyone gets less than 2.50 then he/she needs 6 points in total for admission with mathematics and Physics at any level (HSC/SSC)
For students from English-medium institutions:
For
Student of 0-level & A-level one must complete at least 5 subjects in 0
level & at least 2 subjects in A level. Out of these 7 subjects one must
obtain B grade or GPA 4.00 in four subjects and in rest 3 subjects grade C or
GPA 3.50.
For students with Polytechnic Diploma under
the Bangladesh Technical Education Board:
Passed within the last two years from any of the government Polytechnic Institutes in Architecture.

Curriculum
The 190-credit undergraduate program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) incorporates a broad-based curriculum encompassing arts and sciences of creating spaces as well as critical contents of environments, urban and social resilience. Students are exposed to a variety of general subjects at the lower level, often with moderate specialization. At the higher level, the focus is on specific professional and academic competence. About 77 courses of the program are distributed into 10 equal semesters (two semesters/ year) over five years along with other programs of the university. Besides theoretical courses students are rigorously trained through sessional courses of architectural drawings and designs. The program as a whole consists of core courses, electives, specialized topics and a thesis (final design). Portfolio development for each studio based course in every semester is also an integral part of the program.
