Dr. Shafi Bhuiyan PhD, MBBS, MPH, MBA is an internationally recognized leader in global public health and education initiatives, with diverse experience in both developed and developing countries. He is an Associate Professor and SBS graduate program coordinator, School of Public Health, University of Memphis, TN, USA and Faculty member, Clinical Public Health at the UofT’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Co-creator of MScCH pilot program for ITPs at DLSPH,U of T. In Toronto, Dr Bhuiyan is co-founder of the innovative Bridge Training/CPH certificate Program for IEHPs at SCS. Dr. Bhuiyan holds positions as Adjunct Professor at Faculty of Community Services at Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada and Bangladesh University of Health Sciences.
He previously worked as a Scientist and Senior Health Research Manager for projects at OHTN funded by Ontario’s Ministry of Health & Long Term Care. He was instrumental in improving maternal, neonatal and child health promotion in Bangladesh as founding lead liaison of MCHTI development in Dhaka and the Maternal Child Health Handbook program in Bangladesh, which led to a UNFPA Fellowship for his MPH in Urban health study; MBA from Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada; he also secured PhD & post-doctoral JSPS study award from the Govt. of Japan at Osaka University. Dr Bhuiyan received his Medical degree from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh, an MPH from Mahidol University in Thailand, a PhD in Global Human Sciences from Osaka University in Japan and an MBA in Global Healthcare Management from the Ted Rogers School of Management, TMU Canada.
Dr Bhuiyan outgoing Board Chair of Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research, and affiliated with CAGH-UAC Canada, and Inaugural Board of Directors, Association for Global Health (CAGH), Public Health Association (CPHA), Canadian Partnerships for Women & Children's Health and International Committee on MCH Handbook, Osaka University, Japan. Dr Bhuiyan received lions international president's distinguished leadership award 2020. He is Melvin Jones Fellow and Helen Keller Fellow for his humanitarian services for others. Past Lions Regional Chair served as District Diabetes Awareness, Youth Exchange & Campus Chair, Lions International Dist. A 711, ON. Dr Bhuiyan RBC's new immigrants Top25 finalist in 2018. He is outgoing advisor MedicAlert Canada and Chair, 13th International conference on on the MCH Handbook 2022 at U of T. He served as Board Chair (2021-2023), Birchmount Bluffs Neighborhood Centre, Scarborough, ON; and outgoing Board of Directors, The Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA).
