Dr. Kohinur Begum is a Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacy, State University of Bangladesh (SUB), having joined in 2022. She has more than 35 years of experience in educational institutions and served as an administrator, researcher and faculty member. Since 2012, she served as Professor and Head of Department of Pharmacy in different private universities in Bangladesh. She has served as the Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering, ASA University of Bangladesh from 2014 to 2022 and Acting Dean, School of Medicine, University of Asia Pacific, Dhaka from 2007 to 2010. She received her Ph.D. and M. Phil degrees from the Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka with joint collaboration with icddr,b. She obtained her Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm.) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) (B. Pharm.) degrees from the same University. Her research interests lie in the broad areas Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Molecular biology. Specifically, her current research focuses on the following areas: (1) fermented food and its health benefits, (2) probiotic and prebiotic from fermented food, (2) antibacterial activities of natural compounds and. (3) activities of bacterial metabolites. She presented her research findings in national and international conferences. Dr. Begum is a Member of the Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Society (BPS), Bangladesh Society of Microbiologists (BSM) and American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
