The Department of English Studies at SUB began its journey as a full-fledged department in 2003. The objective of the department is mainly to develop student’s English language proficiency, and intellectual and inter-personal qualities and characteristics. The programs offered by the Department are multi-syllabus-based combining language and literature courses in order to make career options wide and free ranging from teaching to media, government to multi-national jobs. Keeping this in mind the department offers Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts in English curricula that are not only interesting but also provide a vibrant, stimulating and supportive study environment.

The Master of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is a post-graduate program for students who have completed B.A. in English. This program has been designed to expose students to current theories and methods of TESOL and impart the skills of pedagogy in real classrooms. Students will be able to observe teaching in real classrooms at different levels and practice their learning and pedagogic skills on peers as well as on students in actual classrooms under specialist supervision.  They will use a variety of materials, some designed and produced by themselves for teaching in specific classrooms, and assess their impact on students in actual classrooms.  This ability to apply their theoretical learning as practice and their learning and interaction in English throughout the course along with their exposure to technology will make them the proficient teachers of English required by the local and international academic institutions.
