I carried out a two year of research (from April 1993 to March 1995) at the
U.S. National Cancer Institute, which was supervised by Dr. Kirk R. Gustafson.
As a member of the research group headed by Dr. John H. Cardellina II, I
successfully completed more than a dozen of projects dealing with the
anti-cancer and HIV-inhibitory activities of the aqueous/ organic extracts of
plants, marine and microbial organisms. A variety of compounds such as
alkaloids, antibiotics, polyacetylenes, saponins, pterocarpans, lignans and
peptides were obtained as active constituents.
